8×8 inch square format book // Design Fee $500 // Student Designer Eric Losh

For this project the client wanted to publish a series of poems written about insects by her mother, Frances Reffer. The book was to be designed with illustrations for each poem. The client also wanted to incorporate information about the author and the illustrator.

The solution consisted of an 8×8 inch square format book with fully rendered 2-page illustrations for each poem. Playful typography and images that deal with scale, perspective, and wit bring Reffer’s poems and insects to life.

Some poems include pages that flip and fold out to incorporate an element of interactivity within. Final pages include background information and photographs of the author and illustrator.

The book was produced in two forms: a paperback edition and a limited edition of hand bound artist’s books.
